Hello, I’m Ferne
“I love Words.
There is nothing in the world like them.
A gift. A weapon.
They give meaning to life. They take life away.
They are ethereal in their lifting up.
Oppressive in their tearing down.
Life. Death. In the power of the tongue.
For as long as I can remember, I have loved words.
Stories and lyrics and poetry and prose.
Reading them, writing them, knowing them.
I have forever been captivated by the ebb and flow of letters, formed into words, that have been put together into sentences in such an intrinsically beautiful way that you can feel them in your soul. And I simply write my own words in order to try to give meaning and articulation to what is in mine...
Scribbles on a page when I was a little girl... poems and songs, essays and stories. Pages and pages in a thousand notebooks that no one will ever read.
I write about the things I know. The things I see. The God I serve and the people I love. Sometimes I’m a little brave and I let other people read the words I write.
I know there are many others.
Other people writing similar things. But not the same things. If the words I write can impact just one person whose eyes happen to fall upon them, well then - that brings me a kind of joy in my heart I’m not sure I have the words for.
I don't pretend to have anything at all worthwhile to say. But I have a passion and a heart to put black and white shapes on a page in a particular order, in the hope that maybe they form something that matters.
Even just to one person.
Even just to me.”

Ferne, who was born in South Africa and raised in Dublin, Ireland, now lives in the Blue Mountains of Australia with her beloved husband Iain, affectionately known and loved as ‘Hoody.’ It is here that they homeschool their five precious children, raise a multitude of chickens and live a beautiful life surrounded by the bush and the birds and all the evidence of their Master Creator. When she’s not writing her own words Ferne can be found reading other people’s, looking after her home, serving in her church, taking photographs and simply trying to live a life worthy of her calling - as she helps to build the Kingdom of her Almighty God as best she can.
